Twenty Years of the Broads Authority

20th-logoIn 2009 the Broads celebrated 20 years as a member of the national park family

It was over 60 years ago … in 1949, that the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act became law - creating the framework for national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty.

It was over 20 years ago … in 1989, that the Broads Authority was set up, following the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Act 1988, which gave the Broads status equivalent to a national park.

The Broads Act page will tell you about our responsibilities and how it all began.

What’s our biggest challenge for the future?

For many it’s climate change, not only in the Broads but throughout the world, because if we don’t find a way to adapt … But there are lots of things we can all do individually and which the Broads Authority as an organisation can do in the face of the world’s changing climate.

HeronWe all need to ACT ON CO2

Go to http://actonco2.direct.gov.uk/home.html to find out how individually we can help combat the problems of climate change by cutting down the amount of CO2 (carbon dioxide) we produce - and in some cases save money as well.

Climate Change Adaptation Panel

This is a group with members from the Broads Authority, the Environment Agency, the National Farmers’ Union, Natural England and Norfolk local authorities. It will report its activities to the Broads Authority and you can follow its activities here
