Local Development Framework

Core Strategy DPD

The Core Strategy DPD is the first Development Plan Document prepared by the Authority as part of its Local Development Framework. The Core Strategy sets out the vision for The Broads until 2021, including environmental, social and economic objectives and policies for achieving that vision. The Core Strategy was formally adopted in September 2007. For more information, click on the link below.

Development Control Policies DPD

Development control policies focus on important planning and development issues affecting people who live in, work in and visit The Broads, such as development within the flood plain and economic development in a protected landscape. The detailed policies in the Development Control Policies DPD will be used in determining planning applications. The DPD is currently in preparation. It will be published for public consultation (pre-submission consultation) in early 2009. For more information on the DPD, click on the link below.

Development Control Policies DPD and Development and Flood Risk SPD

Following consultation on preferred policy options for the DPD, the draft policy on new residential moorings was revised. A consultation report on the proposed new policy was published in August 2008. To view the report, click on the link below. Responses to the residential moorings consultation are now being considered by the Authority in the ongoing preparation of the Development Control Policies DPD. A summary report of the consultation responses will be made available on this page.

Development and Flood Risk SPD

A Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) giving advice and guidance on development in flood risk zones has been consulted on and is now being finalised. The published SPD will be posted on the planning policy pages and paper copies will be available from the Authority's head office at 18 Colegate, Norwich. 

New Navigation Committee

The Authority consulted organisations representing users of the navigation area on the process to be used for the appointment of a new Navigation Committee in June 2008. The aim of this consultation was to get agreement on a process that was consistent with the requirements of the Broads Act, met the best practice standards now expected in public appointments, and gave users of the navigation the confidence that the appointees were representing their interests. Proposed Conservation Area for Stokesby with Herringby

A draft appraisal report on the proposed Conservation Area for Stokesby with Herringby was published for consultation in February 2008. The appraisal report examined the historic settlement and special character of Stokesby with Herringby and defined an area considered suitable for Conservation Area designation. Relevant stakeholders and interested parties were also invited to a special public exhibition on the proposals.
