Small Passenger Boat Licensing

Draft Licensing conditions - Consultation closed 19 September 2011  Liana

The Broads Authority Act 2009 transfers to the Broads Authority the powers vested in District Councils to licence pleasure vessels used for hire boats or for carrying passengers and their operators. Under the Act, the Authority introduced a licensing scheme for hire boats. It is now proposing to continue the roll-out licensing to include vessels used for carrying no more than 12 passengers and under 24m in load line length that operate in the Authority’s navigation area and adjacent waters and that do not go to sea. The Authority proposes to introduce the new arrangements with effect from 1 April 2012. As part of these proposals, operators were consulted on draft licensing conditions.

The proposed draft licensing conditions will be considered by the Authority's Navigation Committee on 20 October and by the full Authority on 18 November. For more information, email Steve.birtles@broads-authority.gov.uk  or telephone 01603 756078.
