NPA Performance Assessment of Broads Authority

National Park Authority Performance Assessment of the Broads Authority

The National Park Authorities (NPAs) and the Broads Authority differ from other parts of local government in that they are established under separate legislation and the performance of the Broads Authority has to be seen in the context of the national parks family.  Defra needs to satisfy itself that the NPAs and the Broads Authority are performing well and provide value for money for the public purse.  A revised National Park Authority Performance Assessment (NPAPA) process has been devised which is intended to give each authority a better appreciation of its strengths and weaknesses in order to assist it to improve the quality of services which it offers to the public.  The process demonstrates how well the Authority is performing in delivering its strategic objectives, achieving its outcomes and where it can make changes to ensure continuous improvements in service delivery.  As importantly, it is critical that good performance in any particular area is highlighted and disseminated throughout the national park family.

The Broads Authority’s performance assessment review was undertaken on 22 – 25 November 2011 by a Peer Review Group who engaged with over 100 different stakeholders.   The Broads Authority was required to undertake a Self Assessment of its performance in advance of the review.  The Final Report provided by the Peer Review Group provides the findings of the Group.  As part of the overall process, the Broads Authority has generated an Improvement Plan to address the findings within the Final Report.
