Broads Plan
Broads Plan 2004
The Broads Authority is required to produce a management plan for the Broads - known as the Broads Plan - and review and update it at least once every five years. The current Broads Plan was published in 2004. It sets out a vision and long-term (20-year) aims for the future of the Broads, and short-term (5-year) objectives to be addressed during the lifetime of the supporting 5-year Action Plan.
While the Authority is responsible for its production, the Broads Plan is a plan for everyone with a stake or interest in the future of the Broads. Its successful implementation depends upon a shared vision and a sense of common ownership between the Authority and its many partners. You can read the Broads Plan and supporting Action Plan on our Publications pages.
Latest news: The Broads Plan is now under review. Throughout 2009 the Authority will be working with key partners to prepare a new draft Plan and Action Plan, which will be published for public consultation, hopefully in early 2010. The current 5-year Action Plan has been rolled forward while the review process takes place.
State of the Park Report
The Authority produced its first State of the Park Report in July 2007. The Report collects together baseline information about the Broads and sets out key performance indicators and targets. The report will help the Authority and its partners monitor the implementation of the actions in the Broads Plan. It will also help identify trends and changes affecting the special qualities and character of the Broads, and influence future change and new strategies and policies.
The report will be regularly updated as information becomes available. A full report will be published alongside the Broads Plan, when the plan is reviewed. The current Broads Plan is due for review in 2009. Click here to view the State of the Park Report (word document) [315kb].
The Authority also monitors a small set of 'strategic priorities' as part of the delivery of the Broads Plan.
Broads Local Plan (Local Development Framework)
The Broads Local Plan provides statutory planning policies to control and guide new development and the use of land. It covers all the land within the Broads Authority boundaries. Together with the Broads Plan, it is part of an overall strategy to shape the future of the area. The Broads Local Plan is gradually being replaced by a new planning policy system called the Local Development Framework (LDF).
