Grants
There are currently two main sources of grants for Broads projects - the Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) and the Broads and Rivers LEADER+ programme.
The Sustainable Development Fund
In July 2002 the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) set up a Sustainable Development Fund for the national parks in England. This year (2011/2012) £135,000 is available for distribution to local communities, businesses and other groups. To date some 195 projects have been supported in the Broads with grants totalling £1.65 million which have attracted £5,52 million in match funding. Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), Leader Approach
The Leader approach is a delivery mechanism under the new Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) 2007-2013. Also known as Axis 4, the Leader approach is not a scheme, fund or set of objectives, but is a method of harnessing local knowledge to enable a “bottom up”, community led approach to delivery of RDPE funding in rural areas. The Leader approach can be used to deliver a range of Programme objectives, and will help achieve integration.
There are two development areas covering the Broads network:
- Norfolk Coast and Broads
- Waveney Valley

A variety of other sources also offer grant aid for projects in the Broads.
