GYPA Notice 03 2006

GREAT YARMOUTH PORT AUTHORITY

  NOTICE TO MARINERS

  NO. 03 OF 2006

GREAT YARMOUTH - RIVER YARE - HAVEN BRIDGE

TEMPORARY CLOSURES OF NAVIGATION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT painting and repair works will be carried out on the Haven Bridge, commencing on the 2 May 2006, for a period of 19 weeks.

During the works, scaffolding will project below the bridge structure and cause an obstruction to navigation, this will be marked with red flags and, at night, by orange flashing lights. During daylight hours a temporary flashing red light (3 seconds), showing upstream, will be exhibited from the eastern bridge buttress to give warning to approaching craft.

On the 2 May 2006, scaffolding will be erected on and under both side spans and the eastern lifting leaf (Great Yarmouth side). In the first or second week in June the scaffolding on the eastern lifting leaf will be removed and reinstalled on and under the western lifting leaf (Gorleston side).

Navigation under both side spans will be closed for the duration of the work from the 2 May 2006 until the 4 September 2006.

Navigation under the east lifting leaf (centre span) will be closed from the start of the work on the 2 May 2006, until the removal of the scaffolding during the first/second week of June 2006.

Navigation under the west lifting leaf (centre span) will be closed from the installation of scaffolding during the first/second week of June until the middle of July 2006.

Vessels should not pass under the bridge side spans.Vessels should not attempt to pass under the one clear lifting leaf unless they are confident that there is sufficient clearance and tidal flows do not hinder a safe passage. Vessels requiring a bridge lift, should request a lift in the usual manner (tel 01493 335503/4).

River users are advised to approach the area with caution taking heed of the warning notices, lights and the instructions of Port Authority personnel. Vessels not transiting the bridge should stay well clear of the area. Those requiring a lift should stay well up-tide of the bridge until the bridge is lifted and the Bridge Master has given clearance to pass.
