Local Notice to Mariners No 17 2007

Use of Bridge Openings by Small Craft & Yachts During a Commercial Opening

Mariners and Port Users are advised that during a bridge lift for a commercial vessel, only small craft and yachts travelling in the same direction will be allowed to transit (provided they have made arrangements with Port Control prior to the lift). This will reduce delays to road traffic and improve the safety of small craft waiting to proceed from the other direction.

Two-way traffic through the bridge will normally be restricted to vessels under 50 GRT, and subject to the agreement of Port Control prior to any lift

If there is a commercial opening at, or near, one of the published small craft times; any small craft or yacht which is unable to transit will be requested to stay clear of the bridge channel and to wait until another bridge opening is arranged (as soon as conditions permit)
