Local Notice to Mariners No 20 2007
Seismic Seabed Trials off Lowestoft
Mariners and Port Users are advised that subject to weather an array of seismic instruments will be laid on the seabed from position 52 °29.4N 01°49.4E leading in a 010/190 direction for approximately 800 metres, on Sunday 27th August. This is approximately ENE x 2.7 miles from the entrance of Lowestoft Port, between the East Newcome and East Holm Buoys. The seismic cable will be part buried in the seabed for a period of one or more weeks depending on the weather conditions.
The Tug Defiant if conditions permit will be on station at the northern end of the cable secured to a three point mooring system. The MV Gray Jumbo will be working with divers along the length of seismic cables.
High-visibility inflatable buoys with flashing white strobe lights will mark the ends of the cable.
Both vessels will be maintaining a watch on VHF 14 and 16 when working on site.
All vessels are requested to keep well clear and navigate with caution when in this area.
