Incident Reporting

Had a bump?

We hope you'll have a safe and enjoyable holiday on the Broads. If you do have an accident in your boat, there are some things you must do:

  • If someone is injured or there is serious damage to your boat or someone else's boat you must stop as soon as practicable. You must inform the Broads Authority of the incident and give the name and address of the owner(s) of the boat(s) and its (their) registration number(s). You should also give this information to anyone else who has good reason to request it.
  • If you have an accident where property is damaged but no one is injured, you must stop your boat and give your name and address and that of the owner of the boat and its registration number to anyone else who has good reason to need it.
  • You should also take all reasonable steps to find out who the damaged property or boat belongs to, let them know in writing what has happened and give your name and address.
  • If you do have an accident, avoid a fine of up to £1,000 by following the procedures and exchanging particulars.
