Managing Waterskiing
Water-skiing and wake-boarding is permitted in the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads in the following circumstances:
(1) It must take place in one of the 10 zones designated by the Broads Authority and during the times indicated against these zones. Map of Ski Zones .
(2) Water-skiiers and wake-boarders must have a permit granted to them by the Authority under specific conditionsand which, amongst other things, specifies that:
(a) Water-skiers and wake-boarders must be members of the Eastern Rivers Water Ski Club ( www.erwsc.co.uk ).
(b) A log book must be maintained of all water-skiing or wake-boarding activities carried out under the permit.
(c) Water-skiers and wake-boarders must have third party insurance.
In order to obtain a permit, a copy of an application form and application form for Authorised Persons can be found on these links or individuals can contact the Broads Authority Tolls Office by ringing 01603 610734 and requesting a permit application pack.
It should be noted that the Broads Authority has a right to refuse a permit, or in certain circumstances, cancel or amend it. In these circumstances there is a right of appeal to a water-skiing and wake-boarding appeals panel of the Broads Authority. The full statutory provision relating to water-skiing and wake-boarding is contained in Sections 26-32 of the Broads Authority Act 2009 .
The Eastern Rivers Water Ski Club (ERWSC) is the only recognised ski club on the Broads. It was created through an amalgamation of clubs and will continue to strive to maintain the management measures required by the Broads Authority Act 2009. You can assist the ERWSC in this management by reporting incidents that are clearly not in line with current byelaws or conditions by notifying Broads Control on 01603 756056. Indeed any such instances, including dangerous helming and bad behaviour, can be notified to Control. Details of the ERWSC can be obtained from www.erwsc.co.uk .
