Non Native Species Survey
Ant Valley Non-Native Species Survey
The Norfolk Non-native Species Initiative is funding a survey of the Ant Valley looking for non-native species such as Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam, Giant Hogweed and American Mink. Non-native plant species such as Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam spread rapidly, outcompeting native wild plants and flowers.
Aquatic invasive plants like Floating Pennywort block channels and ponds, reducing light and oxygen and causing harm to native plants, fish and invertebrates.
American Mink have a devasting impact on native water vole and waterfowl populations. Giant Hogweed
The survey is concentrating on the six priority species listed below -
Himalayan Balsam
The Big Six'
- Australian swamp stonecrop (Crassula helmsii)
