Sustainable Tourism
Sustainable tourism in the Broads
Sustainable tourism is responsible tourism - tourism which takes into account the needs of the environment, local residents, local businesses and visitors, now and in the future.
In 2009 the Broads Authority secured 500,000 euros of funding from the European Regional Development Fund to promote ‘green’ tourism on the Broads over the next three years.
This is part of a project called STEP – Sustainable Tourism in Estuary Parks – which sees the Broads working in partnership with the Biesbosch National Park in the Netherlands and a protected area around Kruibeke in the Schelde Estuary, Belgium.
The STEP project has so far enabled the Authority to work with the Broads Tourism Forum and local businesses on a joint branding initiative for promoting the area as well as funding a new website enjoythebroads.com . You can find full details of the STEP programme and the projects that are planned at www.step-projects.eu
