Beacon Council Scheme
The beacon council scheme is part of the Government’s strategy to ensure high quality local services for everyone.
By seeking out local government bodies which show best practice in a specific field and enabling other government bodies to learn from their experiences, the Government aims to raise standards within local government.
The scheme gives councils the opportunities they need to share experience, to learn and to innovate, with the beacons acting as a resource for all. Beacon councils organise open days and other events to share best practice.

The Broads
The Broads is one of Britain’s most popular boating holiday destinations and one of Europe’s most important wetlands for rare wildlife.
Tourism is an important source of income for the Broads economy - money is spent in local boatyards, shops, restaurants, hotels, pubs, cafes and other businesses, and tourism supports over 3000 jobs. But tourism has to be sustainable; it has to be carefully balanced with the needs of the fragile environment in which it is based.
The Broads Authority is a Special Statutory Authority with the same status as a national park, with responsibility for conservation, planning, tourism and recreation, and waterways.
