Promoting Sustainable Tourism

The Broads Authority was awarded beacon council status within the category for Promoting Sustainable Tourism in April 2004.

Sustainable tourism is at the heart of our long-term strategy. This vision has been developed locally in cooperation with other organisations involved in tourism, and also with international partners through the Living Lakes partnership and Europarc. In 2006 we were awarded the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.

Cooperation with the boat hire industry and other commercial concerns was highlighted by the beacon assessors as good practice, as was the launch of the Broads Quality Charter and the work of the Broads rangers, who provide a strong point of liaison with the local community.
