Broads at the Boat Show January 6th - 16th

The Broads Authority is flying the flag for holiday boating for the second year running by giving visitors a taste of the Broads at Schroders London Boat Show at Excel January 6th –16th.

Visitors will be able to sample Norfolk chocolates, apple juice and biscuits on the Broads Authority’s stand in the Inland Waterways feature, while they learn more about the magic of boating in the UK’s only protected wetland.

They will even be able to take to the water aboard a Broads cruiser. The Broads Authority will be taking bookings for free 20 minute taster trips round the Royal Victoria Dock as part of the British Marine Federation’s Go Boating initiative. The trips will run on the hour between 11am and 3pm and the boat will take eight passengers.

Eight luxury prizes on land and water, given by eleven Broads tourism businesses, are up for grabs by filling in a questionnaire about the Broads which will be put into a series of prize draws. The top prizes include a week’s holiday for four aboard a motor cruiser, and a week’s stay in a riverside Broadland cottage, which includes two bikes for the week, lunch and a gourmet dinner in Norwich.

Other prizes include a two hour skippered sail and a weekend aboard traditional Broads yachts, short breaks afloat, two nights in a country hotel and four self drive trips on a wheelchair accessible day boat.

The questionnaires will be entered into a series of draws to be made during the ten day show by Home Secretary and Norwich South West MP Charles Clarke, Chairman of the Broads Authority Professor Kerry Turner, Rural Affairs Minister Alun Michael and Professor David Bellamy.

On January 11th Charles Clarke has been invited to launch a new tourism brochure promoting the Broads on behalf of the newly formed Broads Tourism Forum.

On January 14th Rural Affairs Minister Alun Michael, Professor David Bellamy, Chairman of EEDA (East of England Development Agency), Richard Ellis and Broads Authority Chairman Professor Kerry Turner will take part in a seminar on sustainable tourism featuring quick fire presentations about holidaying on the Broads and future sustainable initiatives.
