Find out more about the Wherryman's Way
A final opportunity to find out about the Wherryman’s Way – the new long distance walk which follows the River Yare from Norwich to Great Yarmouth – before it opens in May, is being offered at Loddon Jubilee Hall on Wednesday January 12th, from 10 am – 7 pm.
Broads Authority countryside rangers, the Norfolk County Council Countryside Access Development Officer, and representatives from South Norfolk District Council and the Chet Valley Development Partnership will be on hand to explain the unique project and hear the public’s views.
Lee Cozens, Broads Authority Countryside Ranger for the Yare and Chet said:
“This is a chance for people to come forward with extra information, personal memories or old photographs to bring the trail alive. We want to gather in as much local feeling as possible about the history, wildlife and landscape of this unique place”.
The public will be able to see some exciting designs for sculptures and structures which will commemorate the tradition of the wherrymen, and tell authentic local tales. Imagemakers, the company which is designing this interpretation work, will be finalising the information and pictures for the leaflet and website that will support the project.
The 35 mile riverside route runs through the beautiful and often wild landscape of the Yare Valley where the echoes of the past can still be heard. It travels through existing rights of way from Whitlingham Country Park to Loddon, crosses the river at Reedham by ferry and follows the northern bank to Berney Arms Mill and Great Yarmouth.
In addition there will be ten new circular walks around villages, waterside paths suitable for wheel chair users and a cycle trail so that visitors will be able to mix and match their route and mode of transport to include walking, cycling, rail and riverbus. The project is being funded by LEADER +.
