National Parks Week 2005
Awareness campaign details announced
The Broads Authority will be joining other members of the national park family in organising National Parks Week from July 22nd–29th. The week is dedicated to raising public awareness of the UK’s National Parks.
Amongst other topics, the campaign will be looking at the reasons why people do – and don’t – visit our National Parks, and will be promoting the wide range of opportunities they offer for enjoyment by people from all walks of life.
Under the theme “Access and Outreach” the public will be able to take landrover safaris right from the heart of Norwich to secret wildlife places in The Broads, embark on river trips to Whitlingham Country Park for a guided walk, pedal down the Waveney Line from Outney Meadow, near Bungay and celebrate Hoveton Riverside Park Open Day. Guided walks, a moonlit bat and moth evening and a host of other activities are also planned.
Prime Minister Tony Blair is one of a number of famous names supporting the campaign.
“I am very supportive of National Parks Week. I wish it every success and hope in particular that it will bring the National Parks to the attention of all sectors of society. “I am very aware of the benefits they bring, in conserving the country’s finest landscapes, in conserving cultural and natural heritage, in providing opportunities for recreation, and in improving the physical and mental well-being of the nation. I would like as many people as possible to realise what the Parks have to offer."
"This is the role the National Parks have performed consistently for over fifty years and I look to them to continue their important contribution for the future."
“I am particularly proud of the fact that in the New Forest, the Government has given England its first new National Park for many years.”
