Promoting Sustainable Design in the Broads
Award winning Norwich-based LSI Architects will be holding a half-day seminar on Sustainable Design in Norwich on Tuesday 5 September. This important event is the cumination of an 18 month, £25,000 research project that has been majority funded by the Broads Authority Sustainable Development Fund with grant provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
The seminar will address issues of sustainable building design and construction, and will highlight the vital importance of these for the future. It will focus primarily on design issues unique to the Broads environment but will also cover aspects of sustainability that are applicable in other protected landscapes - and in the UK as a whole.
The seminar will propose 'a cultural change in the whole building design process' and suggest ways in which buildings can complement the sustainable balance of the Broads. It will cover such topics as climate change, energy conservation, low impact and recycled building materials, natural ventilation, renewable energy and the sustainable re-use of existing buildings.
The seminar will be held in Norwich Cathedral during the afternoon of Tuesday 5 September and will be linked to the week long ‘Festival of Science’ that is being staged in the city by the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BA). Places for the seminar are strictly limited and anyone with a particular or professional interest in sustainable design and construction who wishes to attend should contact Joanna Handley at LSI Architects on 01603 660711 as soon as possible.
Based on the same research, LSI Architects has also developed and designed a Sustainability Guide for the Broads Authority. The guide, which consists of a CD ROM and booklet, was launched in late June and will shortly be published on this website.
Also being staged in the Cathedral is the BA’s Climate Change Exhibition ‘Changing the Climate Changing Ourselves’ which runs from 19 August to 16 September. LSI Architects is both a sponsor of the event and an exhibitor and will be displaying some of its projects on its stand.
