Go Wild at Whitlingham

Whitlingham Country Park Open Day 23 June 10.00am - 4.00pm

A chance to go wild in nature’s playground right on the city’s doorstep.

Whitlingham Country Park, which has two broads and woodlands within its 280 acres, is holding its annual Go Wild at Whitlingham family fun day earlier in the season.

This is your chance to have a go at a range of adventurous and fun nature activities such as canoeing, sailing, climbing, archery, pond dipping and mini-beast hunting.

There will also be plenty to watch and learn about the countryside. A team of young trainee reed-cutters will be dressing reed and sedge and building reed screens, while willow weaving and bat and bird box making demonstrations will also be going on.

A walking magician will perform on the beaches and two bands will play throughout the day.

A visitor centre and cafe will be found in a beautiful, historic flint barn providing information about the area and refreshment. There will be a cost for some activities, such as boating, which you will need to book on the day.

The park is easily accessible from the city by bus, bike or boat. Buses 58 and 58a go to Trowse every 15 minutes from Norwich city centre and it’s then a 15 minute walk along Whitlingham Lane to the park. The park is on the national cycle route, or you can jump aboard a river bus at Elm Hill Quay or Railway Station Quay to get to the park. Tel City Boats 01603 701701.

Car parking will cost £1.20 for 2 hours or £3.50 for the day. The event has been organised by Whitlingham Charitable Trust and the Broads Authority with support from South Norfolk Council.
