Broads Authority hits the headlines
The Broads Authority will be making waves on the air, as well as the water in the very near future.
The Authority, which is responsible for protecting the interests of conservation, recreation and navigation will be the focus of a number of interviews and features.
Senior navigation ranger Rebecca Callister was featured on Anglia TV and BBC Look East on Thursday 13th August commenting on the reckless behaviour of a boater in a RIB which was caught on video and posted on YouTube. The Broads Authority has begun an investigation into the incident and Look East and Anglia went out with Rebecca and colleague Andy Bartlett to find out where the boater had gone wrong.
The Authority celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and was the focus of a week long feature on BBC Radio Norfolk from August 17th to 21st. Breakfast and morning show presenters included stories from Broads Beat, the Broads Authority’s reed cutters and millwrights, and covered areas ranging from tourism and recreation to conservation. There was also a trip on the Wherry Albion, the solar boat Ra, and exploration of the wildlife of Barton Broad and How Hill, and Toad Hole Cottage with conservation officer Rob Andrews.
The Broads featured in an episode of the BBC's Rivers with Griff Rhys-Jones, which was broadcast on Sunday 23rd August. If you missed it you can catch up now on the BBC Iplayer.
ITV1’s “Countrywise” will also be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Broads Authority, with Paul Heiney, including a sail on the iconic Wherry Albion. The programme will be broadcast on Thursday 27 August 7.30 pm.
