Broads birthday celebrations launch National Parks week
Broads Authority chairman Dr Stephen Johnson cut two giant birthday cakes to celebrate the Broads Authority’s 20th anniversary and 60 years of the national park movement at a waterside birthday party at St Nicholas Everitt Park, on the edge of Oulton Broad on Sunday 26 July.
The Picnic in the Park, held from 10am to 4 pm, was celebrated simultaneously around the UK at all 14 national parks to launch National Parks Week which runs until August 2nd.
The Broads Authority’s Edwardian style launch, the Liana, gave trips around Oulton Broad, one of the largest of the broads, and there were guided canoe trails morning and afternoon, and guided walks around the broad.
Nutmeg Puppets free open air show, featuring hand-made puppets and an environmental theme delighted crowds with their shows, and the children were kep busy with a treasure hunt, face painting and crafts such as badge-making, dragonfly making and pesky stick making.
