Celebrating 20 years of volunteering on the Broads

The Broads Authority said a big thank you to the scores of volunteers who help conserve and enhance the unique character of the Broads with a special Celebration Day in their honour.

More than 100 volunteers  took part in the event at Whitwell Hall Country Centre, near Reepham, on Saturday 19th September.

Volunteers have been giving their time and energy since the Authority was set up 20 years ago. 250 volunteers carry out roles from countryside maintenance and surveying to working alongside the Authority’s Navigation Rangers. Their ages range from 15 to 86 and they come from all kinds of backgrounds.

In some cases, volunteering for the Broads Authority has even proved to be a life-changing experience. Romance blossomed for two Countryside Rangers who were married earlier this year. Also, in July volunteer Douglas Vallgren, was invited to a Prime Minister’s Reception at number 10 Downing Street to celebrate the contribution that volunteers make to the environment and local communities.
