Lords Committee considers Broads Authority Bill
The Broads Authority Bill, which will make the Broads safer for boating and updates the 1988 Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Act, is being scrutinised by five members of the House of Lords.
The Committee spent six days hearing evidence from the Broads Authority on the need for the Bill, and from petitioners objecting to it. The Committee will reconvene on 11 February for the Authority to make its closing remarks and is then expected to announce its conclusions on the Bill.
The Bill, which equips the Authority to improve safety on the Broads in line with other inland navigations, was deposited in Parliament in November 2006. The Government supports the Bill and agreement reached with the boating organisations over the provisions.
