New tourism campaign launched for the Broads
The Broads Tourism Forum and the Broads Authority have joined forces to boost tourism in the Broads this summer with the launch of a new publicity campaign.
The multi media Enjoy the Broads 2009 campaign will comprise a new website, a DVD of the Broads presented by television presenter Nicholas Crane and a 20 page visitor brochure highlighting the multitude of ways to enjoy this special wetland which is a member of the national park family.
Tourism operators were invited to the launch on Thursday 5 February, at the Broads Authority’s new riverside offices, to celebrate the partnership and the Enjoythebroads campaign.
Dr Stephen Johnson, Chair of the Broads Authority, said: “The Broads has been welcoming holidaymakers to share our unique experience for well over a century. This year, when we expect an increase in people holidaying in the UK, we are working with the Broads Tourism Forum to help our local tourism industry to seize this opportunity. We have a simple message: the Broads has everything - loads to do if you want to, but it is also the perfect place to simply relax and get away from it all.”
Ian Russell, Chairman of the Broads Tourism Forum said: “This is the first time there has been an integrated marketing campaign that has promoted the Broads as a tourist destination in its own right. It will give interested holidaymakers a virtual visit to the Broads.
“The Broads Authority and Broads Tourism Forum are working hard for the whole of the industry to ensure visitors realise the beauty and diversity of the Broads as a visitor destination.”
Nicholas Crane, who sails regularly on the Broads, is passionate about the area.
He said: “The Broads was one of my childhood playgrounds. I rowed and canoed the rivers, capsized in dinghies and enjoyed family walks on the riverbanks. Today I still do all that and more, with my own children. The Broads is where I come to slow down - a secret wonderland just waiting to be explored. Green tourism doesn’t get better than this.”
Guests previewed the five minute DVD, commissioned by the Broads Authority, which provides a valuable marketing tool for local businesses. The DVD, which captures the spirit and beauty of the Broads, will gain widespread coverage on the enjoythebroads09.com and the Broads Authority and Visit Norwich’s websites. It can be linked to individual business sites to use in their own publicity.
A total of 175,000 colourful brochures, containing a mix of editorial by the Broads Authority and advertising, will be distributed at airports, railway stations and leisure and information outlets throughout the region as well as at national and international shows. Like the DVD, it will be linked to the campaign websites.
The campaign will be one of an extensive range of initiatives planned by the Tourism Forum to ensure that Broads businesses maximise growth focussing on high quality standards.
Enjoythebroads09.com and its accompanying brochure will be ready for the new season in March. The Broads Authority is planning to launch a new tourism website later in the year.
