Sixty minutes to plant a thousand trees in the Broads
The public had the chance to help the Broads Authority plant 1000 trees in an hour at Whitlingham Country Park, near Norwich, on Saturday 5 December as part of the BBC’s Breathing Spaces World Record tree-planting attempt.
All the UK’s National Parks planted trees simultaneously in the Tree O’Clock event to celebrate their 60th anniversary, while the Broads Authority is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Twenty five Broads Authority volunteers led the giant tree plant which will create a British broadleaf habitat to provide a haven for a wide variety of wildlife.
Lessons were given on the ancient skill of coppicing, which involves thinning out trees, beside the Great Broad, and volunteers planted as many trees as they could in an hour as their contribution to the Tree O’Clock record attempt.
