Your Broads snap could be a winner

The hunt is on to find the UK’s Landscape Photographer of the Year – and this year there is a special prize for the best picture taken in a National Park, including the Broads.

The prestigious competition with a £10,000 prize is being backed by England’s National Park Authorities to celebrate their 60th anniversary and the Broads Authority’s 20th birthday, as well as Natural England.

The winner of the special National Park prize will receive a two night break in a national park of their choice with a day out with a park ranger and the best picture taken in each National Park will win a copy of the stunning Landscape Photographer of the Year book. The best 170 pictures will appear in the Landscape Photographer of the Year book 2009.

Organiser Diana Leppard said: “We want to encourage  photographers to celebrate the lifestyles of people working in the landscape, such as reed cutters and thatchers, be inspired by the fun of a family boating holiday, as well as capture towns, villages and views. In 2007 a picture of the sun setting behind a Broads drainage mill was commended and projected on to the outside of London’s National Theatre, where selected photographs will be exhibited in December.”

Paul Hamblin, Director of the English National Park Authorities Association, said: “The National Parks are known for their stunning landscapes that have inspired countless people over the years. They are living landscapes where people live, work and play and are truly Britain’s Breathing Spaces. We are delighted to be supporting this year’s competition and hope it will encourage more people to enjoy these very special places.”

All entries must be uploaded via the competition website, www.take-a-view.co.uk. The closing date is 15th July 2009.  Full terms and conditions
can be found on the site.

National park anniversary celebrations are planned throughout the year and details can be found at www.diamondsinthelandscape.org.uk. The
site gives routes for many of the best walks in the National Parks - a great help when planning a day out with your camera.
