Major Broads tourism campaign launched at Boat and Caravan Show

Caravan and Boat ShowThe biggest collaborative campaign ever to promote the Broads as a leading UK tourism destination was launched at the Boat and Caravan Show.

The Broads Authority have joined forces with the Broads Tourism Forum  to launch the Enjoy the Broads 2010 campaign which includes a glossy, 24-page brochure enticing holidaymakers to the delights of the Broads. The guide provides essential visitor information, ideas on what to see and do, and includes a map to help visitors locate the myriad of attractions in this beautiful area.

Thirty six Broads Tourism Forum businesses are supporting the campaign, ten of which will be attending this popular exhibition, the UK’s fifth largest consumer show.  An eye-catching exhibition display has been created featuring boating, canoeing and bicycle hire, while BeWILDerwood, “a curious treehouse adventure”, will feature one of their delightful tree houses. Visitors to the stand will have the chance to win a luxury holiday on the Broads by entering a free prize draw.

Two Broads DVD presentations, one by broadcaster Nick Crane and the other presented by renowned travel journalist Simon Calder, will be played on two giant plasma screens supplied by Norwich-based firm Snellings. A brand-new luxury Broads cruiser will also feature courtesy of Norfolk Broads Direct, and visitors will be able to go on board to have a good look around.

A record 175,000 copies of the new brochure have been printed and will be distributed throughout East Anglia and beyond. They will be available to pick up from tourist information centres, hotels, attractions, train and bus stations, and park and ride sites across the area. Visitors from further afield will find copies on arrival at Norwich International Airport.

Ian Russell, Chairman of The Broads Tourism Forum believes the campaign will benefit visitors and businesses alike: “The Broads provide such a wonderful wealth of experiences for visitors of all kinds but it is not always easy to appreciate what the possibilities are.  Our presence at the Boat & Caravan Show coupled with the launch of the guide and its supporting website, www.enjoythebroads2010.com will make it even easier for visitors to choose the Broads and make the most of their stay here.”

Bruce Hanson, the Broads Authority’s Head of Tourism, said: ”We are keen to encourage more visitors from the Midlands and throughout the UK, and we are putting on a really good display to show them what we have to offer. This is the biggest tourism promotion the Broads has ever seen. The Enjoy the Broads campaign is a genuine collaborative effort between the Broads Authority and the Broads Tourism Forum, and it is great to see so many businesses co-operating to market the Broads so effectively.”

The show, at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC), runs from Tuesday, February 23rd until Sunday 28th, and is expected to attract a total of 100,000 visitors.
