Explore the Broads on a high tech treasure hunt
Wednesday 23 February 2.30 - 4.30pm
An opportunity to explore the Broads on a high tech treasure hunt is the highlight of the Broads Authority’s winter Fun in the Broads programme during the half-term holidays.
The free Techno Treasure Hunt on Wednesday 23 February at Ranworth is an introduction to the world of geocaching—while learning about the Broads themselves.
A countryside ranger will help you use hand held GPS (global positioning system) units to discover a series of geocaches (containers with hidden clues) which will lead you along footpaths around the picturesque village of Ranworth. Along the way you will find out fun facts and clues which will take you to the hidden treasure.
You can then search for a genuine geocache from the official geocaching website where you can find a map of all the geocache sites in the Broads.
Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a global game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache anywhere in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache's existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS device can then try to locate the geocache. The general rule is if you take an item, you leave an item in its place, and write in the logbook. The website used for getting co-ordinates of cache locations and logging finds is: www.geocaching.com.
The free event runs from 2.30 - 4.30pm. There are only 16 places available so booking is essential. Ring the Broads Authority on 01603 610734.
