Planning in the Broads
Welcome to the Planning Directorate
The Broads Authority is the Local Planning Authority for the Broads area. As such, we are responsible for controlling most forms of development within the Broads and for preparing local planning policies. We work with local communities, stakeholders and the surrounding District Councils to protect the special qualities of the area while allowing for appropriate development that meets social and economic needs and maintains thriving and sustainable communities.
These online planning pages provide information on making making planning applications, planning policies, the need for planning permission and planning enforcement in the Broads. Information on current and recent planning related consultations, including the Local Development Framework, may be viewed on the Consultations page.
Public Access allows you to view and comment on any planning application submitted to the Broads Authority and also allows users to check whether a property falls into the Broads Authority Executive Area via the "View Map" link.
The Planning Portal is a Government website which provides information on all matters relating to planning and allows you to submit planning applications online using the Standard National Planning Application Form (1APP). The forms are designed to be filled in on line, or printed out to complete by hand.
Communities and Local Government (CLG) sets policies on local government, housing, urban regeneration, planning and fire and rescue. CLG have responsibility for all race equality and community cohesion related issues in England and for building regulations, fire safety and some housing issues in England and Wales.
The Planning Inspectorate deal with the processing of planning and enforcement appeals and holding examinations into regional spatial strategies and local development plans. They also deal with a wide variety of other planning related casework including listed building consent appeals and advertisement appeals
