Amending your planning permission
When planning permission is granted it will relate to the development applied for and will cover the plans and other details that are agreed as part of the planning application process. Often these are specifically listed in the Decision Notice.
If you wish to make changes to the scheme or development after planning permission has been granted, you will need to tell us and will need to make a formal request.
If the changes proposed are considered to be small (non-material) they can be treated as a non-material amendment. Examples of non-material amendments could include a change of materials, a relocation of a window or door where no overlooking will take place, or a reduction in height of an extension. You will need to complete a form and we will make a decision on the request within 28 days. There is currently no fee payable for this process.
If the changes proposed are more significant you will need to make a planning application to vary the permission. You will need to complete a form and submit a fee of £170.00 to vary the relevant condition.
Since October 1st 2009 there has been a new process to extend the life of a planning permission. An application can be made to extend the time limit of planning permission provided the permission is still extant (alive) at the time of the application and the works have not commenced and the original planning permission was granted before 1st October 2009. You will need to complete a form and there is a fee which is currently the same as the full application, but this is due to change around the end of 2009.
Before submitting any request for change to an existing planning permission, you are advised to discuss your proposals with the planning department.
