Planning Applications

The Broads Authority is a Local Planning Authority and is responsible for controlling most forms of development within The Broads area.

Since 1 April 2007 the Authority has processed all planning applications in The Broads. Before this date, applications were dealt with on our behalf by our surrounding district, borough and city councils. The laws and procedures relating to the processing of planning applications have not changed under these new arrangements.

These pages provide information on whether planning permission is needed, applying for planning permission, pre-application advice and commenting on a planning application.

There are also links to our Public Access pages which allow you to search all planning applications we have received. You can also view our weekly lists, which show all planning applications received in any week.

There are also links to the Planning Portal, a Government website which provides information on all matters relating to planning and allows you to submit planning applications on line.

From 28 March 2008 the Broads Authority has used only the Standard National Planning Application Form (1APP) for planning applications. 1APP has been developed by the Government and is compulsory for all Local Planning Authorities. The forms are designed to be filled in online, but copies can be printed out to fill in by hand. These pages also contain guidance on the information that will need to be submitted in support of any planning application.
