Development Control Policies DPD
Development control policies focus on key planning and development issues that affect those who live in, work in and visit The Broads. This includes, for example, development within the flood plain, sutainable design, and economic development in a protected landscape. These detailed policies, developed from the Core Strategy policies, will be used in determining planning applications.
The Development Control Policies DPD is currently in preparation. We have already consulted on issues and options for the policies, and on a set of preferred policy options. Consultation documents and responses to date may be viewed by clicking on the links below. Representations on the Preferred Options are taken into account in the preparation of a proposed submission DPD, which will be published for a further period of consultation later this year. Sustainability Appraisal (SA) considers the potential social, economic and environmental impacts of the Development Control Policies. Appropriate Assessment (AA) evaluates the potential impacts of the policies on European designated nature conservation sites. SA and AA reports have been produced to help the Authority analyse the issues and preferred options for the Development Control Policies. We are required to produce these reports under European Directives and related UK regulations.

Representations to Issues and Options and Broads Authority Response (word document) [1296kb] A draft Development and Flood Risk Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was prepared alongside the draft Development Control Policies DPD. The Development and Flood Risk SPD was adopted in September 2008 and included in the Local Development Framework. The SPD provides advice and guidance on appropriate development and design and management of flood risk in The Broads.
