Community

As well as recreation, local communities are involved in the project in a number of ways:

  • Volunteer Wardens - Some local people help with patrolling, monitoring and practical conservation work on a regular basis.
  • Consultation Group - Representatives from the local community meet each year to discuss the activities of the project and to voice opinions on future management.
  • Fisheries Consultation Group - This group includes local fishermen and meets to discuss fisheries management with regard to the biomanipulation work.
  • Local Schools - The project gets involved in environmental education at local schools.
  • Public Events - Some activities are organised for the public, for example guided walks and talks.
  • Farmers - Essex & Suffolk Water employs a Catchment Officer to work with local farmers to advise and encourage environmentally sensitive farming in the catchment of the Trinity Broads.
