Barton Broad
Andrea Kelly, Head of Conservation with the Broads Authority, explains about water quality, before we hear from Mike Spire, one of the Broads Authority staff who takes visitors out on Barton Broad (owned by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust) on board the solar-powered passenger boat, Ra. Mike knows Barton extremely well but you never quite know what wildlife you’re going to find - each trip is a voyage of discovery. Barton is great for walking too - Mark Smith of the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind introduces the boardwalk, which is suitable for wheelchair users, and is designed to be accessible to blind and partially sighted visitors. Mark describes it as a place to “enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside”.
