She was inspired to raise money for the charity after attending the launch of a Broads Authority video about accessibility in the Broads where members were given demonstrations of how the Nancy Oldfield Trust enables disabled and disadvantaged members of the community to experience the Broads by boat. Nicky said of the experience,
“The day I went to see the launch of the video “Broads National Park – Access all areas”, on the pontoon at Barton Broad made a great impression on me. The joy on a young girl’s face who had suffered brain injury, sailing across the Broad and whooping with delight was unforgettable.”
Nicky Talbot was so inspired by the way the Trust was able to give people the chance to experience the same water which she sails regularly that she began to look into ways that she could support their work. Despite being an infrequent runner she decided to take up the Run Norwich 10k to give something back to the charity.
“So far, in training I’ve covered a distance of 210K and have run for 26 hours 43 minutes overall. There couldn’t be a better motivation than raising money for the Nancy Oldfield Trust. I take such enormous pleasure from sailing in the Broads National Park and I can’t think of a charity more deserving than one which enables people who might otherwise find accessibility challenging to come out and enjoy the Broads just like I do. ”
Nicky is being supported by National Park sponsors Clif Bar who have offered to provide her with their products to help fuel her training for the race in July.
