Those interested in joining the Broads Authority's Navigation Committee have until Friday 19 October to submit their applications.
The Navigation Committee is responsible for making all major decisions regarding navigation in the Broads and as a result its members should reflect the diversity of the community which enjoys the area.
The Broads Authority's Navigation Committee has an important role, reinforced and agreed with by the Royal Yachting Association and British Marine Federation whose legislation states that the Navigation Committee’s role is,
"To act as a scrutiny and advisory committee in relation to the navigation, consulted in advance on all matters of significance to navigation and with the facility to have delegated to it navigation functions but with no obligation for this to happen. This leaves the Authority and, so far as functions are delegated to them, its officers, with the full executive function but with improved accountability, recognising that the Navigation Committee has an important role in advising upon, facilitating and scrutinising the activities of the Authority in relation to its role as a navigation authority.”
Willing applicants should have a good knowledge of the Broads and its special qualities, they should know about the navigation area and the relevant issues which arise through its use, as well as the recreational usability of the Broads.
