Defra is seeking to appoint two new Secretary of State Members to the Broads Authority.
The role would involve a time commitment of between 2 – 3 days per month and is an opportunity to take a leading role in conserving and enhancing the natural beauty and special qualities of the Broads National Park. The roles are non-salaried but certain allowances are available.
Lord Gardiner of Kimble, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Rural Affairs and Biosecurity will be looking for individuals who are passionate about the Broads and confident in helping to steer the direction of the Authority’s work. He said this of the role,
“I am looking for a wide range of passionate and committed individuals who want to help shape the strategic direction of our National Park Authorities and AONB Conservation Boards. As a Secretary of State appointed member, you will have the opportunity to help conserve and enhance our most treasured landscapes now and for future generations. I welcome applications from people who have a clear understanding of land management, rural communities, as well as protection and enhancement of the environment.”
Current Secretary of State Member and previous chair of the Authority, Professor Jacquie Burgess, said of her time in her post,
“Being a member of the Broads Authority has been an opportunity to have a say in the future of the places that I love. It’s really important that the members of the Broads Authority are as diverse as possible and reflect the different opinions of Broads users. I would thoroughly urge any interested parties who love the Broads to come forward and represent the area they’re passionate about by applying to become a Secretary of State Member.”
