Biography

I was raised and reared in Norfolk and spent many summers sailing on the Broads as a sea scout. A work experience placement at the Broadland Flood Alleviation Project cemented my passion for this special place and set me on a career in engineering.

Whilst studying I was fortunate to be involved with the Broads Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund, sitting as one of the young members on its assessment panel. This gave me a fantastic opportunity to see the wide breadth of people and groups interested in the Broads, and the cares and concerns they share.

Following university I joined the City of London Corporation, first as a building control officer but over the past decade have moved to leading the Environmental Resilience Team. I am responsible for developing how the City Corporation will respond to increasing flooding, overheating, drought, biodiversity losses, and other climate impacts. I led on the creation of the first riverside strategy in London. It sets out how to locally implement wider plans to improve Thames flood defences in the face of rising sea levels.

I spend much of my spare time working my allotment or taking walks along my local rivers.
