We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to lead the Planning function of the Broads Authority, looking after the Broads National Park. Our Planning team plays a vital role as part of the National Park family in protecting our unique landscape whilst balancing the needs of our communities. This role will contribute to ensuring the special qualities of the Broads’ natural environment and its heritage are maintained, as well as supporting sustainable economic development.
As Head of Planning, you will provide overall leadership on all areas of our Planning function which consists of ten posts covering planning policy, development management, compliance and enforcement, heritage and design, and planning administration. The Head of Planning has line management responsibility of four posts.
You will be an experienced and confident planning professional with full MRTPI membership who can operate effectively at a senior level. The role requires regular contact with Broads Authority Members and can be politically sensitive. Confidence in supporting the Authority in a public-focused and proactive way is a key aspect of the role.
Key skills required include strong demonstrable experience in managing staff and service delivery, knowledge of Local Planning Authority responsibilities and Planning Legislation. Experience of historic environment and TPO legislation and an understanding of National Park planning framework would be desirable.
The role will also support the upcoming Local Plan Examination in Public to be held in February 2027 and the monthly planning committee meetings.
