Broads Peat Partnership

A distant view of a small windmill structure surrounded by tall golden grass in a marshland, with a line of green trees and a cloudy blue sky in the background.

The Broads Peat Partnership is working to restore degraded peatlands across the Broads National Park, including its river valleys and surrounding wetlands.

These unique landscapes store millions of tonnes of carbon, support rare wildlife, and help manage water and flooding.

Through raising water tables and restoring natural hydrology, we aim to turn damaged peatlands back into thriving, climate-resilient ecosystems - benefiting nature, heritage, water quality, and local communities.

Our vision is for healthy, functioning peatlands that:

  • Store carbon and reduce emissions
  • Provide habitats for rare species
  • Manage flood and fire risks and water supply
  • Preserve archaeological heritage
  • Support farming and rural livelihoods

The Partnership brings together local authorities, NGOs, landowners, businesses, farmers, and contractors, all working collaboratively to protect and restore these vital wetland landscapes.

Thanks to financial support and matched funding from a range of partners, our work is helping secure the future of Broadland's peatlands - for climate, for nature, and for people. Click the boxes below to explore the project and learn more.
