Conference - Managing Carbon and Water in Lowland Landscapes
This one-day cross-sector event helped to advance discussions on how we manage water and carbon across lowland peat and mineral soils, with a particular focus on floodplain landscapes.
It explored how Water System Planning and on-farm decision-making can drive both climate action and resilient land management.
This event brought together farmers, businesses, researchers, and policymakers to explore how integrated water and soil carbon management can be applied across lowland floodplains, including peat and mineral soils.
Hosted at the University of East Anglia (UEA) - a hub for environmental science and innovation.

Why this and why now?
Norfolk and Suffolk partnerships and organisations have been collaborating with the agriculture, conservation, and water sectors to raise awareness of the urgent need for peatland restoration and sustainable water use. Across lowland areas, there remains a lack of clarity on how integrated water planning can support the rural economy, carbon goals, food production, flood risk, and biodiversity - particularly across complex floodplain systems.
This event was about connecting the dots between strategic catchment-level planning and farm-scale implementation.
