BSS News - Calor to continue to supply 3.9kg propane and 4.5kg butane cylinders

BSS Release

"At the end of 2023, Calor’s Network Team reaffirmed that Calor is to continue to supply the 3.9kg propane and 4.5kg butane cylinder sizes and is working hard to return supply to normal as soon as possible.

The BSS welcomes this latest announcement as it could mean that boaters may not need to make any changes to the boat’s LPG system to suit a different size of cylinder.

The news is likely to be well received and we appreciate Calor listening to the concerns of the BSS, boating groups as well as many individuals, since its original announcement this time last year.

By way of a reminder, in January 2023, Calor published its decision to discontinue its small capacity LPG cylinders from 1 February 2023.

In early April 2023 Calor announced revised plans to continue to exchange and refill serviceable cylinders of these sizes, phasing them out of supply over a longer time frame. However, supplies were never enough to meet demand and involved customers initially contacting a regional Calor Distribution Centre to ensure availably and then travelling to pick a cylinder up.

The BSS risk review had identified that potential consequences of Calor’s decision constituted a ‘high risk’ situation requiring to be managed, and BSSMC members were involved in agreeing those risk mitigations. As part of this process, the BSS maintained a close liaison with Calor, including engagement in six virtual meetings at director level.

The BSS has informed Calor that the Easter period will see an increased demand from boat owners, they acknowledge this but say that is not known when the supply will return to normal, and boaters are encouraged to check availability at their local stockists. The BSS Office will continue to monitor the supply situation and will continue to report quarterly to members."
